A beautiful lime silver leaf necklace, handmade using a real lime leaf. The leaf is handpicked and dried, painted with eco friendly silver clay, fired and soldered to a handmade wire bail, and then the whole item is polished by hand to leave a silver shine. It is finally finished with a protective coating to prevent tarnish.
Common limes (Tilia x Europaea) are a deciduous broadleaved tree, native to England. They have a beautiful leaf as the leaves are naturally shaped like a heart. They are eaten by the caterpillars of many moth species and are attractive to aphids, providing food for ladybirds, hoverflies and birds; bees also love the flowers. The most common use of limes is as an ornamental tree in large parks but its bark is used to make ropes and its wood is good for piano keys. Limes have long been associated with fertility. In France and Switzerland, limes are a symbol of liberty, and the trees were planted to celebrate different battles.
