A beautiful fine silver botanical necklace, made using a real lichen. The lichen was painted in several layers with silver metal clay, when it was dry it was fired and a soldered handmade jumpring was attached made with sterling silver wire. I have only polished the highest points so that you can see the textures and depth of the piece. The whole item is finished with a protective coating to prevent tarnish.
The lichen used for this piece is a species called Evernia prunastri - also known as oak moss, it has grey-green flat branches and is white underneath. Lichens are both fungi and algi/cyanobacteria which work in a relationship. They don't actually kill trees as they are thought to, they grow where there is enough light as they require it to photosynthesize. Lichens are said to symbolise solitude.
This nature pendant measures 2.7 cm (1.06") in length and 1.9 cm (0.75") at the widest point. Purchase on its own or with an 18" hammered sterling silver oval link chain. If you would like a different length or style please don't hesitate to contact us.
Every item is presented in a recycled pillow box with an anti-tarnish tab, and is posted safely in recyclable wrapping. If you would like to add a giftbox to your order it would make the perfect gift for those who love woodland jewellery or forest jewelry.
